The Engineer of Resilience

“To anyone who’s ever felt like the odds are stacked against them, remember that your struggles are not weaknesses, but stepping stones to success… every challenge you overcome makes you stronger. Your hard work is always rewarded and you will reap the rewards!”

Born in Faisalabad, Pakistan, in 1959, Nazar Hussain was just five years old when he arrived in the UK with his mother in 1964 to join his father, a weaver working in Nelson’s textile mills. Their first home was on John Street, a place where dreams and determination took root. Life at school was happy and full of friendship. He excelled in football, cricket, and cross-country running, quickly finding his place in a new world. Language was never a barrier for Nazar. Instead, he became the family’s translator and advocate, helping his parents navigate everyday life in England.

Nazar’s professional journey began with modest beginnings at Cox & Company Developers, but his true calling came when he began an apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce in Barnoldswick. There, he spent more than four decades, a total of 41 and a half years, where he mastered his craft as an Aeronautical Engineer and Welder. His dedication was recognised with a 25-year service award, a testament to his loyalty, precision, and quiet excellence. For him, working at Rolls-Royce was not just a job it was a lifetime achievement, a symbol of commitment and craftsmanship.

Beyond work, Nazar’s heart found purpose in community. As Secretary of the Faisalabad Welfare Association, he helped children with disabilities experience joy and inclusion, organising trips and supporting families through care and compassion. His devotion to others mirrors his gratitude for the opportunities he earned through perseverance.

For Nazar, success is measured not only in awards but in family and faith. Taking his parents and wife to Hajj stands among his proudest moments, as does seeing his children grow into happy, independent adults. His message to younger generations is both humble and wise:

“To anyone who’s ever felt like the odds are stacked against them, remember that your struggles are not weaknesses, but stepping stones to success. Whether it’s navigating a new country, excelling in a prestigious apprenticeship like Rolls Royce, or supporting your loved ones as a translator, every challenge you overcome makes you stronger. Your hard work is always rewarded and you will reap the rewards!”
